Acoustic Design Recaptures Spirit of Ancient Greece
Historically, the ‘Prytanion’ was the ancient Greek equivalent of a town hall, the place for discussing political issues as well as the venue for official ceremonies and the welcoming of important guests.
In one of the oldest and most historic areas of Athens can be found the contemporary equivalent. In downtown Kolonaki, the Prytanion Restaurant is known as one of the most famous dining places in the Greek capital — a place for bon viveurs who have good taste in both food and music.
Now owners, Niko and Antonis Iliopoulos, have contracted QSC Audio’s Greek distributors, I. Diamantopoulos S.A. to design and install the sound equipment for his new Prytanion 2, in the wealthy area of Kifisia, in the north suburbs of Athens. Project manager Sotiris Sofianos designed a system in which the processed audio signal is relayed though an all-QSC AcousticDesign PA.
With the rooms divided into two separate zones, 12 AD-S52 and eight AD-S82 sleek, full-range, surface-mount loudspeakers are powered by quantities of QSC RMX 850 and RMX 2450 amplifiers.
So happy with the result was Niko Iliopoulos that on the very day of the opening he re-enlisted the QSC distributors to replace his existing system at the original Prytanion with an AcousticDesign system.
“And so this is exactly what we did,” says Sotiris. Into the venue went six AD-S82H, four AD-282H and four AD-S52s on the first floor, which serves as an overspill for the main restaurant. A pair each of QSC’s RMX 1850 and RMX 2450 provided the power.
“Once again the result was incredible,” reports Sotiris. “What is particularly impressive is the performance of the AD-282H’s. The first Friday night after the installation of the new system no-one believed that we hadnít concealed any subs in the main room. The clarity and punch that was delivered by the AD-282H was on a par with much more expensive systems and the DJ, who is used to working with the old system, exclaimed, ‘I can hear information and detail in my CD”s that I never realised was there’.”
