MA Lighting UK – 12 Months of Success

Twelve months ago MA Lighting set up their own office in order to have direct representation in the UK market. “Nobody knew what would happen – and certainly nobody could have predicted the incredible market response,” said Michael Althaus of MA.

Across the past year, multimedia grandMA control systems have been used extensively throughout the UK and Europe, and the demand shows no sign of slowing down. Rock and roll tours included Shakira, Elton John, The Darkness, Chemical Brothers, Backstreet Boys, Tool, Guns and Roses, Take That and Mark Knopfler, to name just a few. Touring events included such productions as Hillsong and several corporate productions specified grandMAs in addition to the Chinese State Circus and Snow White on Ice.

Lighting Design students can now benefit from direct access to grandMA at the Central School of Speech and Drama and several designers have bought their own consoles. grandMA’s can also be rented from White Light, Vortex Lighting, Neg Earth, Hawthorn Theatrical, PRG, HDO Productions, and Innovation Productions. Hawthorn theatrical also have a grandMA Video in rental.

They’ve been used on shows in the West End such as ‘Sinatra’ at the Palladium, Avenue Q with Wicked to follow later this year, and numerous shows through rental such as Sondheim’s ‘Do I Hear a Waltz’ and ‘Hot Stuff’ at the Leicester Haymarket.

Systems have been specified and sold through the UK and shipped to Greece and Aruba and British designers have specified and used grandMAs overseas in the US, Turkey, Greece, Dubai, Germany and Oman. Cruise ships such as P&Os, Princess and the Queen Mary 2 are traveling grandMAs the world over. Fixed installations at the Plymouth Pavilions and several Butlins entertainment venues are using grandMAs.

And connected via the UK there have been numerous overseas events such as the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Oman Military Tattoo, World Cup Draw, Eurovision Song Contest, and the new Madonna world tour, which have all been controlled by grandMA consoles.

Richard Lambert (pictured), technical director for MA Lighting UK, says: “The demand for grandMA consoles has been staggering. It’s very exciting to be part of this successful product line – having joined MA only a year ago it’s been just the best year!”
