AETTI BTEC Awards for Apprentices
Aetti BTEC Award Courses are to be delivered to Apprentices at the Birmingham Rep in July. By meshing the common section of 'Technical Skills in Live Entertainment' and 'Stage Lighting Rigging and Operation' these two three-day cousrses can be completed in five busy days. Apprentices doing both will therefore receive two BTEC Award Certificates.
John Pitt, apprentice scheme coordinator said: “When the scheme, funded by European funds finishes its cycle, these young people will need to find full time jobs. We at the Rep have given them more than a grounding and allowed them to specialise. This experience plus a Certificate from a National Awarding Body should greatly help them in their search.”
Peter Ireson, AETTI chair added: “Full marks to Birmingham Rep for having the courage to go ahead and be the first theatre to take on long-term aprentices. A lot of organisation and effort has obviously gone into the project. We were very pleased to be asked to help and hope the success of the project so far will encourage more theatres to take on apprentices. It is an excellent way of slowing the skills decline.”
