Harlequin Floors at RAD’s Day of Dance

The Royal Academy of Dance hosted a day of dance that included classes by Wayne Sleep, as part of The Big Dance events held in London. Dance classes took place both inside and out with the opportunity to dance in the RAD’s purpose built studios, or in a marquee in the RAD’s courtyard housing a fully sprung dance floor supplied by British Harlequin.
Harlequin’s contract team installed the Liberty sprung floor with a Fiesta vinyl dance surface in the marquee for the event. Harlequin Fiesta has been developed with a tough wear coat to stand up to the rigours of percussive dance such as tap and Irish dance, while the oak-strip patterned hard surface provides an elegant solution that is also well suited for social dancing. Harlequin Liberty is a floating floor system of sprung floor panels and available in versions for either permanent dance studio installation, or as stage panels for special events and touring.
Celebrity Wayne Sleep’s fun packed and inspirational open workshop attracted hundreds of people on Sunday 16th July 2006. Adults, young people and families; beginners and professionals alike, all took to the dance floor together for the opportunity to dance with the popular choreographer and dancer. The Wayne Sleep Special was just one of a whole range of free taster classes and workshops held throughout the day, run by professional dance teachers and aimed at anyone willing to ‘give dance a go’ regardless of their age or ability. The day was supported by other celebrities who made guest appearances including Agnes Oaks and Thomas Edur, guest Principal Artists with English National Ballet, Steven Wilks, former Royal Ballet Principal and actor Ben Price.
