RCF Monitor Q for Virgin Megastore Berlin
Berlin’s new railway station has been described as “looking like a giant glass spaceship that has landed in the middle of Berlin". Ten years in construction, the station is the largest single project since German reunification, with the opening timed to coincided with the start of the World Cup. As with all new urban developments, the inclusion of retail leisure areas are vital to the stations day to day life. With some 1100 train and 300,000 passengers passing through every day, their every need has been catered for with a three level shopping plaza, where 82 stores, lounges and restaurants provide around the clock service.
One the main anchors is a Virgin Megastore, operated by HDS-Retail. The AV installation for the new store was carried out by Raum plus Schall, working in partnership with RCF Germany.
RCF’s Michael Herweg explains: “We have previously worked with Raum plus Schall on the Virgin Megastore in Paris, where they first used the new Monitor Q series. The sound design for the new store was carried out by our engineers in collaboration with Raum plus Schall.”
Utilising the new Monitor Q series MQ 50-S and MQ 60-S loudspeakers, which offer excellent sound coverage and ease of installation, vital in such retail situations. These were backed up by a pair of Acustica S4012 subs - extremely compact in design the S4012 delivers a very tight and fast bass response. The system is driven by an all RCF combination of power amplification.
The sound system has four zones, which allows playing the same music in every zone or different music in each zone. There are eight different video zones (12 x 42" Panasonic Plasmas and one 4.500 ANSI Lunens Sanyo Projector) in HDTV quality.
The store also has a small stage for musicians, actors or artists with a possibility to connect to the sound and video system.
