STLD Generic Lights Day at Pinewood Studios
The Society of Television Lighting Directors (STLD) is holding a Generic Lighting Shootout and Sponsors Exhibition at Pinewood Studios on Saturday, 5th August, 2006 from 11.00 a.m - 17.30. The event will be held in TV One, which is one of a pair of 8,960 sq ft dedicated TV studios at Pinewood which are the home to programmes such as Weakest Link, Test the Nation and My Family.
The event will focus on comparing the latest profile spots, Fresnels, softlights, cyc lights and followspots side by side in a TV studio environment. See how well a 90 degree profile spot performs. How many cyc units are required to evenly cover a 15 metre cyclorama? Can LED units be used to replace the traditional Cyc Lights and Groundrows?
The performance of the displayed products will be viewed on camera, and a panel of expert lighting directors will be on the lookout for the best products in a number of categories throughout the day. The proceedings at the event and the comparisons will be reported in Television Lighting - the journal of the STLD which is published three time a year for members of the Society.
Dimmers and Power Distribution as well as LED units will also be on display. As well as the display products many manufacturers will be showing other interesting items and there will undoubtedly be some new products on show with the PLASA show following just a few weeks later.
Unlike usual commercial exhibitions, different manufacturers products will be displayed side by side for direct comparison of performance and features. If you want to see which profile has the sharpest focus for gobo projection then STLD suggest you go along and find out!
The event will also feature eight 15-minute presentations by the key exhibitors at the event, which will be followed by 30-minute breaks to examine the products on display. A buffet lunch will also be available for visitors.
The event is free to visit and is open to anyone to attend - TV lighting directors, stage lighting designers, event producers, amateur or professional. The event is being produced with the support of Pinewood Shepperton Studios, Philips Lighting and AFM Lighting. Exhibitors currently expected at the event are AFM Lighting, Arri Lighting, Arri Rental, Avolites, Beadlight, Cine Power, Cirro Lite, ELP, ETC, James Thomas, Lee Filters, Lee Lighting, Lightfactor, Lighting Logic, Martin Professional, Philips Lighting, Photon Beard, PRG Europe, Roscolab, Selecon, Stage Electrics, Stagetec / Compulite, Strand Lighting and White Light.
In order to encourage visitors there will be a Partners (Lighting Widows) programme to provide entertainment for those whose partners want to attend the event but who don't want to spend all day in the Studio themselves. Subject to Studio commitments it is hoped that this will include a Tour of Pinewood Studios and a visit to Syon Park which has been the location for numerous TV and Film dramas such as Gosford Park, Byron, The Madness of King George, Agatha Christie's Poirot and Love in a Cold Climate.
