Bandit and Roxy Music
Roxy Music, founded in the early 1970’s, has recently teamed up again for a 12-city European tour. Known for being a significant influence in the early British punk movement, Roxy Music existed from 1971 to 1983. After coming together for a reunion tour in 2001 there has been a collaboration ever since. The band is set to release a new album in 2007, their first since 1982.
Managed by The Agency Group, Ltd., tour manager Levi Tecofski and production manager Jason Danter, Roxy Music played their first show on July 5, 2006 in Dublin and wrapped up on July 22, 2006 in London. The tour, which lasted about a month, took in a variety of countries, including the Republic of Macedonia & Serbia, which were new territories for Roxy Music.
Lighting designer Baz Halpin chose to use Tungsten 5000W Fresnels around the band on floor stands and drop bars to create a warm rich environment and give an authentic feel. Martin MAC 2k Profiles and MAC 600s served as the ‘work horses’ of the rig. The Martin MAC 2k Wash was used to light the Roxy Music custom backdrop. Source 4 19 degree profiles were used to keylight the members of the band. Lastly, Atomic 3000 strobes and 4-Lite DWE Moles were added for effect.
“The lighting was very conventional in the sense that there were no toys or gadgets, explained Halpin. “It was a traditional show with the emphasis on setting tone and visually matching the atmosphere of the music.”
Bandit UK general manager Mark Powell added that he was very pleased to be part of the Roxy Music team. “It is a great pleasure to be involved with such a legendary act as Roxy Music,” he said.
