Hawthorn and Music in the Meadow
For the second year running Hawthorn donated their services to assist the Twyford village committee in holding the recent Music in the Meadow event at Waterford House by providing all the staging, power distribution, sound, lighting and technical crews for the charity concert.
Despite the downpour of rain over 1000 party revellers enjoyed a spectacular evening’s entertainment. Hawthorn Hire Department employees even provided the opening act of Smallbear, an acoustic duo of Jamie Arkless and Neil Rabjohn, who performed admirably, warming the crowd up through the worst of the rain!
The headline act was the magnificent Don Watson Band from Denver, Colorado, USA who enthralled the spectators for over three hours with a repertoire of audience-requested songs.
Whilst a small amount of ticket receipts are allocated to the upkeep of the village Church and Hall, the majority of the proceeds from the concert go to the County Air Ambulance and the Trust Fund set up for the Leicester Tiger’s prop forward Matt Hampson, who sustained a serious neck injury last year whilst training with the England U21’s.
Many of Matt’s colleagues from the Tigers were there to support him at the event, with Tom Verndell, Brett Deacon and Matt Cornwell assisting other well known local celebrities, including nationally renowned health and fitness guru Rosemary Conley, in the raffle draw which included some amazing donated holiday prizes.
“Despite the rain the concert was an outstanding success and there was a real party atmosphere,” said village committee spokeswoman Alison Ingram. “We have raised over £26,000 for our local charities and are still counting - which is over 60% up on last year. We can’t thank our other sponsors THA, Milton Bayer, Phoenix Colour, NH Skips, Harborough Portas and the Raynsway Group enough for their support.
“However, Hawthorn deserves to be singled out. They were just brilliant, with all the staging, sound and particularly the beautiful stage and meadow lighting. And the tree lighting effect was superb!”
