DRP Group Turns to Hawthorns for Thomas Cook Conference

For the fifth year in succession, Hawthorns were contracted by Worcester-based DRP Group to supply some of the technical needs for Thomas Cook's annual overseas conference, held in Malta.
This year’s event was different in many ways as they opted to use Malta's all-new 130m x 50m venue, recently erected by Arena Structures. And Hawthorns were the obvious choice for DRP as they have lots of experience working in a temporary venue such as this.
Hawthorns were responsible for all the lighting, power, sound, trussing and drapes. Once again the structure had to be multi-functional in terms of hosting; conferences, talent shows and gala dinners. This was a challenge by itself, as the lighting and sound had to be versatile enough to cope with many disciplines of the entertainment industry. Because of this factor, Hawthorn’s sound designer Iain Reinhold opted for the new Yamaha Digital desk, recently added to their hire stock. The desk proved an invaluable tool, as it allowed him to store each show and recall them with the minimum of fuss.
A seven-man crew that included sound, lighting and rigging technicians, was dispatched from Hawthorns for the 12-day event, and the whole event was rigged and plotted within three days ready for the first day of rehearsals.
Dale Parmenter, DRP's managing director said: “The Thomas Cook conference is always an exciting challenge and this year has been no exception. However, this time we have delivered the best ever and it’s in no small part down to the Hawthorn team’s hard work."
