LIPA Wraps Pro Tools in Audient

The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts recently took delivery of a Sumo analogue summing amplifier for its Pro Tools centred Studio 5, further augmenting its Audient portfolio.

LIPA, whose lead patron is Sir Paul McCartney, was opened in 1996 and offers degree level training and education for both performers and those who make performances possible.

There are six studios in LIPA’s impressive array, each having been designed with a particular purpose in mind to equip students with a broad knowledge of recording environments and technologies.

Head of Sound Technology, Jon Thornton said: “Analogue summing is a topic of interest to many in the professional audio field and the addition of Sumo to Studio 5 gives students the opportunity to explore it for themselves. Sumo has an impact on mixes in small, but noticeable ways and it’s definitely worth a listen.”

Studios 3 and 4 were equipped with Audient ASP8024 consoles in 2002 and are used intensively around the clock by students of Sound Technology and other allied fields.

Studio 5 is a small Pro Tools studio designed for overdubs and mixing, with Pro Control mixing surface and a Digidesign 192 Interface. An Audient ASP008 already provides a transparent front-end for tracking. Now Sumo completes the system adding analogue summing, wrapping the Pro Tools system in Audient’s analogue goodness.

Audient sales and marketing director, Luke Baldry says: “I’m glad to see that Audient products are playing an ever growing part in the life of LIPA students.”
