Meyer Sound UK Seminars at LIPA and LAMDA
At the end of January, Meyer Sound is launching an expanded education program in Europe by offering two of its most popular seminars in Liverpool and London, England. The seminars will also serve to bring students of audio at two prestigious schools — the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) — into contact with professionals working in the field.
Mauricio “Magu” Ramirez, the company’s engaging senior technical seminar instructor will present a System Design Principles seminar, while legendary FOH mixer and Meyer Sound Tour Liaison Manager Buford Jones brings his wealth of experience to Mixing Workshop seminars.
Both Liverpool seminars will be held in LIPA's Paul McCartney Auditorium, while the London presentations will be in LAMDA's Lidbury Studio. The seminars are open to the public, as well as to LIPA and LAMDA students.
The System Design Principles course provides a broad overview of the key principles involved in designing and measuring complex sound reinforcement systems. Participants receive a basic grounding in audio measurement (including phase and impulse responses) and how these parameters relate to filters and phase alignment. The seminar also introduces line array theory and outlines line array solutions for specific applications. System optimization approaches are covered in conjunction with an overview of source independent measurement as implemented in the SIMŽ 3 audio analyzer.
The Mixing Workshop focuses on the various disciplines involved in FOH mixing, including artistic, technological and psychological considerations. The class draws extensively from Jones's three decades of experience mixing such top-level acts as Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, James Taylor, Faith Hill, Counting Crows and Clint Black.
The demand for Meyer Sound seminars has increased significantly in recent years; this year is the third that Meyer Sound has staged UK seminars in January and the response is significantly higher this year than every before. “These first two seminars are intensive, one-day introductions to the material,” remarks Gavin Canaan, the company’s education program manager. “We expect to offer an expanded program of longer, more in-depth seminars throughout Europe in 2007.”
The schedule of seminars is as follows:
Liverpool: 29 January: System Design Principles; 30 January: Mixing Workshop
London: 1 February: System Design Principles; 2 February: Mixing Workshop
