Blackout Reveals Concept Cars at Press Event for Ford Europe
Blackout was involved in supplying a complex truss grid with motors, track and drapes for a Ford Europe press event which saw the unveiling of three cars one of which was conceptual in advance of the Frankfurt Motor Show – Europe’s largest motor show.
The event took place at the Congress Park in Hanau, Frankfurt and ran over two days in September: the first presentation being for 165 motoring journalists and the second for a select ‘Car Of The Year’ party.
Blackout’s involvement with the project came through the company’s long-standing relationship with UK-based Mansfields, a design and marketing company which conceived, designed and implemented the event in conjunction with 4Impact. Mike Hayward, marketing manager at Mansfields, explains: “We were given a huge logistical task in transforming the main room at the Congress Park into a space suitable for the launch,” says Hayward. “Blackout provided a motorised truss grid for the room to support all the lighting, AV and sound equipment that was needed for the presentation. They surrounded the room in bright white drape, also creating three doorway portals, and provided additional white drape to act as two video projection screens for the presentation. The result was breath-taking.”
Above the stage, Blackout positioned four double-curved, motorised tracks, each configured in an S-shape to follow the shape of the stage and that of the three cars to reveal them as they revolved for the benefit of guests. White voile drape used to conceal the Ford Verve concept before its unveiling was also supplied by Blackout.
“We’ve worked with Blackout for many years having always found the people a pleasure to work with and the equipment to be thoroughly reliable,” says Hayward. “That’s just what you need for a project like this, where you’re working to tight deadlines.”
Steve Tuck, managing director of Blackout, adds: “The Ford launch in Hanau was a great example of how we can help an event become reality by providing a wide range of staging equipment – on time, within budget, and tailor-made to the specific requirements of the job. Seeing our equipment used with such style and creativity never fails to give us a buzz. It’s what we’re here for!”
