Dezign Audio Gets Flexible with HK Audio
West Yorkshire-based pro audio hire, sales and installation experts Dezign Audio have earned a reputation for supplying superb systems across the spectrum of sound reinforcement. Led by highly respected engineering director Barry Newby, the Dezign Audio team has over 25 years’ experience on the frontline of live audio work.
Now, in a move to increase their field of operation with the potential to offer larger scale sound solutions, Dezign Audio, in conjunction with fellow pro audio concern, Red 13 PA, have each bought eight box HK Audio ground stackable ConTour Array Series systems. And though both companies will use their ConTour Array set-ups on an independent basis, they will also combine their ConTour Array resources to be marketed as one system, thereby enabling them to quote for larger events.
Each ConTour Array 8-box system consists of four CTA208 8 ohm mid/high packs powered by an HK VX2400 power amp giving 1,200 watts per side, plus four CT118 passive 4 ohm 1 x 18” sub cabinets powered by two VX2400 amps, giving 2,400 watts per side. The result is a total 8-box system with a power capability of 7,200 watts of powerful, highly detailed sound. If operated jointly by both companies, the 16-box ConTour Array system total an impressive 14.4kW RMS, with the systems controlled through the new DSM2060 digital processor.
Both Barry Newby of Dezign Audio and Red 13's Mike Smith comment that the purchase of these two systems gives both companies a great deal of flexibility. "Not only because the system is so very efficient, with wider sound dispersal and longer throw," expands Newby, "but also in terms of a totally versatile approach in that the systems can be operated either as four small compact 4-box systems in a '1 x bin + 1 x top per side pole-mounted' arrangement, or as two 8-box systems using ground stack plates, or ultimately by flying the whole 16-box system for optimum performance at larger scale events."
Every box is protected, Newby insists, either by flight cases for the mid/highs, or padded bags and detachable wheel boards for the subs, resulting in a meticulously tidy and logical approach in system operations.
