Harman Offer Soundcraft Vi6 Training for Live Sound Engineers
Harman Pro UK, British distributors for Soundcraft and the other manufacturing companies in the Harman Music Group, have announced a training day on November 30th, 2007 for professional live sound engineers who wish to get the most out of the Soundcraft Vi6 digital live sound console. The event will take place in North London, at Camden nightclub and live venue KOKO, and will be hosted by Soundcraft technical staff and Rob Hughes, an experienced Vi6 user from UK hire company SSE Audio, who were one of the first companies to order the Vi6 following the console’s launch in 2006. SSE now own several of the desks, and they are in constant use.
Two training sessions will be held on the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each catering for up to 10 engineers. At each session, following an initial technical presentation, the 10 will be divided into two groups of five, each with access to their own Vi6, so that every attendee is assured of some properly supervised hands-on time with the console. The morning training session will conclude with lunch, to which the engineers attending the afternoon session are also invited, before the sessions continue in the afternoon with the second group of ten engineers.
“What better way to become more familiar with the Vi6 than in a session in a real live venue, under the hands-on guidance of an experienced user and Soundcraft’s own engineers?” comments Amanda Chester, marketing manager of Harman Pro UK. “We hope this will be the first of many free Vi6 training days to come.”
Launched last year, the Soundcraft Vi6 is a digital mixing console aimed at the live and installed sound markets, and is designed to be the industry’s most powerful, easy-to-use professional digital console in use in the live arena to date. Its eye-catching, colourful user interface is derived from the Vistonics interface created by fellow Harman Group company Studer for their Vista series of high-end broadcast consoles. Many of the hardware controls are physically situated on updatable colour displays, allowing the associated legending and values to change instantly as controls are reassigned. Faders can adjust aux or monitor sends as well as channel gain, and the colour of a translucent strip at the edge of each fader track alters to match that on the main colour displays depending on the selected function. This patented design concept, known as Soundcraft FaderGlow, allows users to determine the fader’s function immediately on sight, and also helps to give the Vi6 its instantly identifiable aesthetic appearance. This summer, the Vi6 has seen use at festivals, gigs and on tour with a variety of top UK acts including Groove Armada, Kasabian, Athlete and UNKLE.
To be eligible to attend the training day, you must be a professional sound engineer (freelance or permanently employed) and derive at least half of your income from live sound work.
