K.M.E. Audio Installation for New University Building in Potsdam

On 15th October Potsdam University opened a new lecture room and seminar building at the campus Griebnitzsee. It now has seven lecture halls with a total of 1790 seats and 18 seminar rooms with 900 seats. The biggest lecture hall at the university, with 800 seats, can be divided into two smaller halls with 400 seats each. In the new building are situated the faculty for economic and social sciences, the legal faculty and the language centre.

The AV-planning by Zibell-Willner & Partner of Berlin was carried out by Pro Video Handelsges GmbH Berlin, who were responsible for delivery and installation. The major lecture hall for up to 800 people was equipped with active QSA 200 K.M.E. loudspeakers. The systems include the Remote Control Module (RCM) developed by K.M.E for remote monitoring and remote control of the self-powered speakers. In the rear zone of the lecture hall passive QS 1082 with 100 V transformers as delay speakers support the reproduction. Also the lecture hall for up to 500 people as well as the smaller rooms for 100 to 150 people are equipped with similar K.M.E. systems. In the smaller seminar rooms with 40 to 80 seats, passive QS 1062 with wall- and ceiling-mounts have been installed.

All audio signals are connected to amplifiers of the respective active loudspeaker systems by digital signal processors with various pre-programmed settings. There are three modular, central DSP in two director rooms, which can be hooked up by CobraNet via Hub-technique to a single “virtual DSP” so that each single audio signal can be processed and reproduced for each room independently. Additionally, software for each direction has been planned defining a graphic desktop for an easy remote control of the digital signal processors with easy-to-set situations. In addition to the automatic and semi-automatic audio processing it is also possible to undertake the processing manually through an analogue 24-channel mixer.

Said Oliver Nobiling, planning and sales support for conference technique at Pro Video: “The loudspeakers from K.M.E. offer an extraordinary high quality. The speech reproduction and the sound attained by the systems is optimal for the application in lecture halls and seminar rooms. The company support was always very quick and reliable at each stage of the project.“
