Lights Shine from the Rafters at Salisbury Cathedral

Staging and lighting engineers from Stagecraft Theatre Services (STS) made themselves at home in the rafters of Salisbury Cathedral recently, whilst completing the challenging installation of a new rigging system. The system, which included 12 bespoke designed rigging frames set in the Nave Triforium of the Cathedral, will enable an internally wired lighting bar to be swung out over the Cathedral’s performance area.
Martin Palmer, sales director at STS commented: “The new rigging system at Salisbury Cathedral is one-of-a-kind and our team of engineers have worked hard to design and install a rig which is flexible, easy to use and effective. The system we have created will enable technicians at the Cathedral to successfully light performances of any size, from quartets to orchestras. One thing is for certain, you definitely have the best view from the rafters!”
The hire department at Stagecraft has been involved in many musical and dramatic productions at Salisbury Cathedral, including Mzani Sings a spectacular celebration of South Africa’s musical heritage. Working with the group and Salisbury Cathedral, the hire team was responsible for the creation and installation of the lighting and sound system for the performance.
