Live Web TV Show to Promote Pro-Copyright Campaign

The Industry Trust for IP Awareness will take its pro-copyright campaign to the heart of its internet audiences this week with a live web TV show highlighting the value of the creative process. The interactive web chat will be aired at 11:30am on Thursday 4th October and will feature Paul Archer, acting director-general of the Industry Trust, along with two behind-the-scenes specialists – acclaimed stunt performer, Steve Truglia and television producer, Claire Travers-Smith. Visit http://www.copyrightaware.co.uk and follow the web chat link to view it.

A first for the UK’s creative industries, the web chat will grant viewers real-life insights into working in film and TV. Producer Claire will provide anecdotes from her placements on the Trisha Show, MTV, This Morning and Big Brother 2007, while Steve will give live demonstrations from his colourful stunt career in film, which includes Bond classic, The World is Not Enough. Paul Archer will be on-hand to reinforce the role of copyright in protecting the livelihoods of all industry workers. The web chat will also be fully interactive, enabling web viewers to post their questions live to all participants.

The web chat forms part of the Industry Trust’s new consumer communications campaign “Backstage Stars”, which aims to shed light on some of the industry’s unsung heroes to highlight the wealth of skilled workers that copyright helps to protect. By demystifying these unseen skills, it hopes to engender a broader appreciation for the value of creative works and highlight the importance of buying legitimate products.

The Industry Trust will be creating the web TV programme in conjunction with radio and web consultancy, Markettiers. It will also be working with the backstage stars to produce a short audio feature for radio about working in the industry. The feature will be syndicated out to radio stations across the UK, targeting regional audiences in those areas most affected by copyright theft.

Paul Archer, acting director-general, the Industry Trust, said: “The live web chat and audio feature represent a landmark move by the Industry and one which demonstrates that we’re open to taking innovative steps to reach all our audiences. Consumer consumption of the media is changing and we need to be able to cater for that by delivering our pro-copyright message in a whole host of ways.

“By carefully targeting sites and stations to air the web chat and the audio feature, we aim to reach film and TV fanatics, and those seeking creative careers. The web chat will enable us to take our pro-copyright message right to the heart of the online downloading community where we hope to start to influence opinion on illegal downloading.”
