PRG Europe Supplies Alvin Ailey's UK Tour
PRG Europe has once again supplied lighting for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's UK tour. Some 180 ETC Source Four profiles and 80 Source Four PARs were supplied by the rental firm for the UK tour as well as cabling and Avolites dimmers.
Lighting director Al Crawford explains: "PRG Europe supplied equipment for our last UK tour, two years ago, and as soon as they heard we were returning, they thought about how things could be improved and told us about it - before they even got the job. PRG Europe still maintains that individual attention to detail and client needs that is so important to a company like Alvin Ailey. We are pleased that they are our favourite supplier in Europe."
"And once we'd returned to them for this UK tour, I really felt they understood our needs. I have nothing but praise for project manager Loz Wilcox and the rest of the team. We could not have prepared the kit in such a short amount of time without their support. They were great at
building custom applications and problem solving."
Loz says: "We needed to be creative with some of the solutions we offered the company, so as to best fit their needs. For example, we ended up making custom battens with fixtures mounted directly on them. We also made some towers for side lighting the stage, in which the
luminaires could be permanently mounted. They could then be wheeled in and out of the theatre quickly and easily."
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew from a performance in March 1958, at the 92nd Street Young Men's Hebrew Association in New York. AAADT has gone on to perform for an estimated 21 million people in 71 countries on six continents, including two historic residencies in South Africa. The company has earned a reputation as one of the most acclaimed international ambassadors of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance. The company's current tour continues in the UK until 9th October, then moves to France and China. The New York season at New York City Center Theater is from 28th November until 31st December.
