The 23rd Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards has announced the line-up of top producers, sound mixers, and musicians scheduled to present during the much anticipated 2007 Awards ceremony. This year’s Awards will take place Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the New York Marriott Marquis, on the second night of the 123rd Audio Engineering Society (AES) Convention being held at the Javits Convention Center.
Among those selected to present awards during this, the world’s most prominent forum honoring outstanding achievement in professional audio production and product design, are: Living Colour guitarist and founder of the Black Rock Coalition, Vernon Reid; producers extraordinaire Phil Ramone, Tony Maserati and George Massenburg; actor Peter Riegert, who will co-present the coveted Les Paul Award to rock and pop pioneer Al Kooper.
Awards will be given in 25 categories of Technical and Creative Achievement. Kooper, a member of rock’s Pantheon for his work with Bob Dylan, Blood Sweat and Tears, the Blues Project and many others will be on hand to accept the prestigious Les Paul Award from Riegert and the legendary guitarist and inventor, Les Paul. Sponsored by Gibson Guitar Corporation, past winners include Steve Miller, David Byrne, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Brian Wilson, among others. Also during the evening, acclaimed broadcast mixer Ed Greene (Oscars®, Grammys, Kennedy Center, Olympics) will be inducted into the TEC Awards Hall of Fame, sponsored by Dolby Laboratories.
Late Night with David Letterman’s Will Lee reprises his role as host of the event for the third year in a row. “As peerless a raconteur as he is a studio stalwart,” says President of the Mix Foundation President and executive producer of the TEC Awards, “he has just the right balance of chops to appeal to an audience of studio professionals and musicians.”
Funds derived from the TEC Awards support programs that educate audio professionals and the general public about hearing health, and also endow scholarship funds for students of the audio arts and sciences at major colleges and universities. To date, the Mix Foundation has contributed more than a half-million dollars to these worthwhile causes.
The Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio is a 501 (c) (3) charity headquartered in Walnut Creek, California.
