Essential and Renegade Shine at the Natural History Museum

As approved contractors, Essential Lighting were recently asked by Nick Gray of Renegade Lighting to provide and install the lighting for the 2007 Shine Benefit Dinner held at The Natural History Museum.

As well as the usual generic lighting used throughout the museum, Nick specified Essential’s new 2.5kW City Colours to light the exterior of the building in Shine’s ‘burnt orange’ colours.

Inside Nick used a mixture of generic fixtures as well as LEDs and Martin MACs. The towering arches and walls of the Central Hall were lit using Martin’s new TW1 Wash Lamps as well as iPix Satellite LED fixtures. Mick Hucknell, who provided the cabaret, was lit using MAC 2000s Profiles, MAC 600s and MAC 250 Wash Lamps. Further MAC 2000s and MAC 600 fixtures were positioned under a giant 7m x 3m floating screen above the stairs to provide back light to the performance area.

Dancing took place in the North Hall where Nick had specified eight ten-foot high columns of Essential’s new Barco MiTrix LED panels, each topped with a MAC 250 Entour for dance floor effects. MAC 250 Washes were positioned at the balcony level to wash the room and chrome effect dance floor with colour.

As usual with the Natural History Museum ‘get in’ was at 6pm with the reception area ready for guests within the hour, the dining area in the Central Hall to be ready shortly afterwards, Nick therefore made full use of Essential’s WYSIWYG facilities to plot the Central Hall and North Hall before getting onto site.

At the end of the evening, more than £1 million had been raised for the Shine Trust and more than 30 Essential crew loaded two very full 16-ton trucks worth of equipment to return to the warehouse.
