Funky Junk Focus on Harman in February

Funky Junk, the North London retailer of new and used pro audio and recording technology, has teamed up with Harman Pro UK, British distributor for the Harman Group of pro-audio equipment manufacturers, to create a month-long installation focusing on some of Harman's key recording brands.

Throughout February, the recently refurbished Funky Junk emporium on Hornsey Road, near Finsbury Park, will house a variety of classic recording gear from key Harman brands including JBL, dbx, Lexicon and AKG, and feature a selection of vintage AKG mics from Funky Junk's own collection. Additionally, on Wednesday 13th and 20th of February, Harman employees will be at the store for two special product focus days held in Funky's newly completed demonstration studio. On the 13th, visitors will have a chance to check out Lexicon's new PCM96 high-end Firewire connectable stereo reverb, which is being flown in especially from the USA for the event. A week after this ‘sneak preview’, Harman representatives will be back at Funky Junk, together with a special guest speaker, to present a history of AKG microphones, ranging from the classic models created during the early years of the company's 60-year history to the latest hi-tech additions to the AKG range. On both days, the product presentations will take place in two sessions, from 2pm to 4pm, from 5pm to 7pm.

Announced at the recent AES show in the Autumn, the PCM96 builds on the 'hardware plug-in' concept established by the affordable Lexicon MX series of processors, whereby a hardware reverb can be connected to a computer via Firewire and can be controlled completely from a software control plug-in running in the computer's DAW environment. With the PCM96, as on the Lexicon MX500, audio to and from the Lexicon processor is also routed via the Firewire connection, seamlessly integrating the external processor into the DAW production environment, and offering users the high-quality sound of Lexicon reverb without putting any strain on the computer's own processing power. The PCM96 goes beyond the offerings of the MX500, however, with brand-new Room and Hall algorithms, Ethernet and wordclock connections, and an assortment of new mono reverbs and effects. And of course, as its name suggests, the new PCM is capable of high-quality audio output at 96kHz.

The Harman product installation, including the PCM96, can be viewed at Funky Junk throughout February. Attendance at the two product focus days, at which food and drink will be provided, is free, but the events will take place in Funky Junk's demonstration studio and vintage equipment room, so space at each of the two sessions on each day is limited to 20 persons. If you'd like to come to one of the two focus days, please register at www.harmanprouk.com, stating which of the days and sessions (early or late) you'd prefer to attend.
