Soundcraft’s Vi6 Digital Console Monitors the Arctics

Will Doyle, monitor engineer for The Arctic Monkeys, has chosen a Soundcraft Vi6 for the final shows in a year-long tour. Playing the largest London shows to date in their brief but stellar career, the Arctics sold out back-to-back shows at the Alexandra Palace.

“I’d been using a Yamaha PM5D for ages,” says Doyle, “and I wanted to try something new. I’d heard really good things about Soundcraft, everyone said it sounded great and was easy to use, and I’ve found that to be the case. Even an idiot like me can operate it, it’s fantastic!”

The Soundcraft Vi6 becomes part of the Arctics’ touring inventory, supplied by the SSE Audio Group. Has it changed they way he works? “I find I’m using less EQ on the channels because the system sounds nicer to start with. It’s very easy to find things fast, a very convenient board all round.”

Will Doyle is the newest recruit to a growing band of engineers adopting Soundcraft’s Vi Series of small-footprint digital consoles. Gerard Albo has been using Vi6 at front-of-house for Amy Winehouse, a Britannia Row production, as has Tom Marshall for The Coral (Adlib Audio). Other Adlib clients with Vi6s include Lance Reynolds, mixing FOH for Ash, and Matt and Stefan, respectively working with We Are Scientists and The Little Ones, who have been touring with the Kaiser Chiefs.
