Hullabaloo Studios Re-equips with Icon D-Control and Pro Tools System

Hullabaloo Studios has chosen HHB’s specialist audio-post division Scrub to install a Digidesign ICON and Pro Tools system. The 16 fader ICON D-Control console and Pro Tools HD3 Accel system are part of a re-equip of the facility’s Studio One.
Located in Manchester, Hullabaloo is an all-round post-production facility, with a particular speciality in childrenıs animation series. They are currently working on kids’ favourites Postman Pat, Fifi and the Flowertots, and the latest incarnation of Rupert the Bear.
Studio One was previously based around an AMEK DMS digital console and Avid’s Audiovision. The move to a Pro Tools system was a significant upgrade, but as Simon Hall, Hullabaloo’s managing director and chief dubbing mixer, explains, the intuitive ICON control surface and its tight integration with Pro Tools made the process simple.
“Actually, it was a pretty seamless transition, very easy,” says Simon. “Although the learning curve is steep when you move away from Audiovision, the D-Control hardware is such that any editor can get on the ICON and pretty much start straight away.”
One of the attractions of moving to an ICON system was the ease at which operators familiar with Pro Tools could adapt to the new console. “In terms of workflow, the D-Control makes a lot of things easier. I’m very impressed with how well the console allows you to work with Pro Tools. Basically, if you can use Pro Tools you can use D-Control.”
Having dealt with Scrub and its personnel for a number of years, Simon had no hesitation in calling for their advice and assistance at all stages of the install.
“From start to end Scrub have been very good, not just at the installation stage, but also in being able to teach people how to use the system. We’re very happy with the service and support they offer.”
Commenting on behalf of Scrub, director of sales Ben Nemes says: “We’re delighted that Hullabaloo have chosen an ICON D-Control for the refit of Studio One. As existing Pro tools users, we’ve already enjoyed showing them just how easy it is to begin working with the D-Control. Theyıre thoroughly impressed with the results!”
