Panda Hire and Martin have a Ball at Derby Students Union Graduation 2007
The University of Derby Students Union Graduation Ball 2007 was held on Saturday 20th January. The “Snowball” as it is known is renowned for providing a quality evening for graduating students and partners a great venue with some fantastic entertainment. Last year’s event was enjoyed by nearly 3000 students and their guests and included entertainment which in the past has included establishes acts such as Colin Murray, Jools Holland, Happy Mondays and Edith Bowman.
Panda Hire Ltd provided and installed the various Martin products that were used to light the event, and included MAC 500s, MAC 600s, MAC 250 Entours, MAC 250 Washes, MX-10s, Atomics Strobes and two Jem smoke machines.
Peter Davies from Panda Hire Ltd, was the lighting designer for the event explained the use of the Martin products: “The MAC 500 and MAC 600 units were ideal for the stage lighting for this event and as such were used to complement the generic lighting rig that we installed, complete with Jem Stage Hazers and a Jem Magnum Pro 2000 smoke machine. In addition to this, MAC 250 Entours, MAC 250 Washes and MX-10 fixtures were used throughout the Atrium on the lighting rig for the dance floor, together with some additional MAC 600s for mood lighting in chill out areas. A Jem Glaciator was also used to enhance the mood lighting.”
Peter goes on to comment: “The MAC 250 Entours and Washes were ideal for the dance floor lighting over any other fixture due to their speed and improved optics.”
Chris Vernon-Smith, project manager from Panda Hire comments, “"We used the ‘industry standard’ smoke machines to quickly fill the venue with smoke and enhance the gobo effects produced from the profile units."
Panda Hire Ltd has provided rental and production services since 1998. They started with limited rental and production provided primarily for band events. Since then, the variety and scale of productions has grown significantly, and they now provide lighting for a growing number of events and activities including the architectural lighting at Hampton Court Palace for their annual Christmas Ice Rink Installation.
Most recently they provided full production for the Gary Numan Telekon Mini Tour in December 06. They provided PA, lighting, structure, set and logistics as a complete tour package. The lighting rig for this comprised of primarily Martin MAC 500 and MAC 600 fixtures.
In addition to this Panda Hire have provided Lighting rigs for many well known bands over the last year which include, The Dirty Pretty Things, The Sugar Babes, G4, GLC, The Zutons, Embrace, Bjorn Again, plus DJ's Trevor Nelson, Dave Pearce, The Cut up Boys and Killa Kela.
