Thessaloniki Song Contest Returns with grandMA in Control

Between 1962 and 1997 the Thessaloniki Song Contest took place every year. Now it’s back again. ERT, the greekGreek television channel, has revived the show. Recently ten finalists fought live in the Paok Sports Arena for victory. The extraordinary event was designed by Manfred “Ollie” Olma who used two grandMA full-size, one grandMA light and four NSPs to control the lighting. Lighting fixtures included 60 MAC 2000 Washes, 60 MAC 2000 Spots, 24 VL 2000 Spots, 16 VL 2000 Washes and six Robert Juliat Cyranos.
“The grandMA was simply essential for the realisation of the show,” explained Olma. “I can set-up the console in whatever way I need to. The networking capabilities are truly great.”
For the final, 15 different songs were programmed and for the two voting shows in the run-up 40 more. Both shows were live broadcasted live by ERT via 18 cameras. The stage design, with three moveable LED screens, was done supplied by Elias Ledakis who also developed the stage for the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. Costas Carambalidis worked as technical producer, Tobias Petzhold programmed the conventional lights, and Marcus Boßdorf the moving lights. The greekGreek company Audio Control realised the show.
