TPi Awards 07

The 2007 edition of the Total Production International Awards was staged at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, west London on Monday 5th February. The Awards followed the daytime’s annual PSA Conference - a well-attended event in itself - that included a panel-led session on the current Ofcom Digital Dividend Review dispute.

Hosted by Suggs, the frontman of Madness, the TPi Awards drew a record-breaking audience of almost 1,200 people from across the live music production industry, and included special guest presentations by Sir George Martin, Queen guitar legend Brian May, Feargal Sharkey, Jeff Wayne of The War Of The Worlds fame and The Smiths' Andy Rourke.

During the 'Swinging Sixties'-themed ceremony, TPi Awards creative director Mark Cunningham announced that the event is set to grow even bigger in 2008, to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Total Production International magazine. Details will be officially announced by Mondiale Publishing later this year.

The TPi Awards 07 production team was managed by Steve Allen with support from Julie Chennells. Contributing to the design and set-up of the event were The ML Group, The Picture Works, Lighthouse Technologies, PSCo, video director Richard Shipman, Digital Insanity, Edirol, The HSL Group, Martin Professional, Star Events Group, Pixel Range, Green Hippo, Blackout, Pains SFX Dept, A.C. Lighting, S+H Technical Support, ShowLED Animation, Edwin Shirley Trucking, Local Crew Ltd and Sunbaba.

Tragically, the ceremony was preceded by the shocking news of the death of Richard Willis, SSE Audio Group’s Sales Manager, who collapsed and died at the venue as he was preparing for dinner. During the ceremony, DiGiCo’s Bob Doyle paid a heartfelt tribute to Richard, who was just 46 years old. All at TPi and Mondiale Publishing send their condolences and sympathy to Richard’s family and close friends.

A full production report on the event and a Richard Willis tribute will be published in the March 2007 issue of TPi.
