Legendary Remixers K-Klass Achieve Chart Success With JBL
K-Klass is celebrating its latest No. 1 in the UK’s Dance charts with its 2007 version of Rhythm is a Mystery.
The single, which originally entered the charts in 1990 when it went to No. 3, marks K-Klass’ first hit since acquiring a pair of JBL Professional LSR4300 studio monitors, supplied by Harman Pro UK dealer, Liverpool-based Studiocare Professional Audio.
Andy Williams, who founded K-Klass in 1989 with Paul Roberts, Russell Morgan and Carl Thomas, says: “We recently started work in our new pre-production studio in Wrexham, but the small monitors we were using were not giving us the sound we wanted. After looking at a number of alternatives, we chose the LSR4300s because their low frequency correction tool gave us such a fantastic sound. This is particularly important with Dance music where you really need to know what’s happening at the bottom end.”
JBL’s new LSR4300 studio monitors feature RMC room mode correction, JBL's exclusive technology that automatically analyses and corrects the response of each speaker in the room for absolute accuracy at the mix position. These are also the first studio monitors to incorporate powerful network intelligence, which is built into each speaker to deliver an accurate mix in any room.
“The fact that these monitors are self-powered was a major plus point for us,” Williams adds. “They are very easy to work with – not at all fatiguing – and they give us an incredibly accurate picture of what we are recording. For Rhythm is a Mystery 07, we used them for all our programming before moving into a larger studio to mix.”
Although K-Klass originally achieved success through live events which saw them touring all over the world, the boys eventually decided they could reach their audience better if they got behind a mixing desk. Before long they were remixing and producing for other artists and notched up notable success with remixes such as the infamous Bobby Brown 2 Can Play That Game. Other artists that have had the K-Klass treatment include Janet Jackson and Luther Vandross, Kylie Minogue, New Order, Whitney Houston, The Corrs, Cher and M-People.
In 1995, K-Klass won the accolade of International Remixers of the Year and in 2002 they followed this with a prestigious GRAMMY nomination for their remix of Samantha Mumba.
The boys are currently working on new material, which they plan to release later this year on All Around the World Records.
