Party Under Construction: White Light On Show At One Piccadilly

White Light was re-united with long-time collaborators The Admirable Crichton and Private Drama for ‘Party Under Construction’, a showcase for the best in the events industry that took place at London’s hottest new venue, Number One Piccadilly.
Overlooking Piccadilly Circus, with spectacular views down onto Eros, the ‘Under Construction’ theme of the party came from the venue itself still being a building site! Nonetheless, it was transformed to host a spectacular party for over 600 guests, who enjoyed performances from the casts of Chicago and Tap Dogs and by Private Drama, food and party design by The Admirable Crichton, sound by Delta and, of course, the best in event lighting courtesy of White Light.
White Light’s lighting designer Jason Larcombe used a comprehensive range of equipment from White Light’s diverse hire stock to create lighting that highlighted the ‘construction’ theme of the site while bringing glamour and sparkle to the party itself. His rig made use of everything from Martin MAC500, MAC550, MAC600, Vari*Lite VL1000 and VL2000 moving lights and ColorBlock LED fittings to Source Four profiles and Pars, and then on to more ‘industrial’ fittings such as 500W floodlights, fluorescent tubes, and even flashing roadworks lights! The lighting rig was controlled by an Avo Pearl and MA grandMA Lite consoles. As well as the lighting design and equipment, White Light provided rigging, cabling and dimming as well as a full production service and crew led by David Lowndes, with White Light’s overall contribution run by the company’s business development director, Richard Wilson.
The design and lighting dramatically transformed the space, simultaneously revealing the possibilities of the venue and hiding those elements not quite finished, and garnered high praise from both those attending the event and those who helped to organise it. "It is not often you are blown away by the experience at a party, but this was one of those times," commented guest Jeremy Brown of event organiser Spectra.
Those who didn’t attend the party can see highlights from the event, and the possibilities offered by all of those involved, at www.partyconstructed.co.uk - though sadly you won’t be able to obtain the black plastic builder’s rubble bag full of supplier information and other goodies that the party guests left with!
White Light is now a regular on the party and event lighting circuit, with recent projects including events at The Science Museum, the National Maritime Museum, Somerset House, Kent House, the Royal Lancaster and the Wellington Arch. The company is an approved supplier to many venues in London and elsewhere around the UK. A portfolio of White Light’s work in this and the other areas with which it is involved - including lighting hire, sales, installation and service - can be found at the White Light website.
