Stage One at the Cutting Edge of Technology
Stage One has long been regarded as a company at the cutting edge of technology, not only seeking ways to develop their technical capabilities but in optimising their work processes also. As such, a substantial financial investment by the company has recently resulted in the delivery of a Routech Chronos CNC machining centre – a nine tonne, 5-axis machine with a working size of 3m x 1.5m x a 800mm Z height – one of only four in the UK.
This ground-breaking machine means that Stage One can now machine out both scenery and 3D objects such as moulds or sculptural pieces in wood or plastic, with the utmost precision and superb finishing, making an astonishing variety of 3D models a possibility and allowing the company to offer a rapid prototyping service to customers.
“Machines such as these have been used in other industries, such as furniture making, for some time,” said Chris Augur, production director, Stage One. He added, “we believe, however, that this machine is unique to our industry and added to our portfolio, will allow us to provide yet another exclusive service for our clients; in fact it has already caused quite a stir.”
Purchased from leading woodworking machinery supplier, SCM Group, the machine was bought, installed and commissioned over an incredibly short period of time, just three weeks in all, and training has been undertaken to ensure that members of the Stage One CNC team are accomplished operatives. Now fully operational, the company already has plans for its use on several up and coming projects.
As an exciting addition to the suite of equipment now in situ in the Stage One CNC workshop, the machine means that the company can offer the event industry an unsurpassed amount of CNC capacity and expertise, which they will be seeking to capitalise on by sub-contracting out spare capacity.
