CT Stage MiTrix for Worldwide TV Charity Debut

Creative Technology’s LED hire inventory had no sooner swelled with the addition of Barco’s latest screen technology – MiTrix – than the cutting-edge product made its worldwide television debut, quite literally placed centre-stage of BBC’s charity extravaganza event, Comic Relief does Fame Academy.
The show’s entire performance area was based around CT-supplied LED screen elements to create the intimate atmosphere that has become the footprint of the show’s design. The stage floor is created from Unitek 25mm, with Barco’s 6mm I-Lite LED in place as the main screen behind the performance area.
The new Barco transparent MiTrix system was specified to create four columns of screen behind the main stage area, as well as the facing edges of the sweeping side staircases - which were re-introduced for this production – and the central step area. The show’s production designer, Patrick Doherty, explained: “the MiTrix elements hold the whole set together in a way that revolutionises the look of the set: the stairs, the stage, and beyond, are not just a performance area but one huge, dynamic set screen. The imagery becomes the focus rather than the technology.”
CT’s Adrian Offord recommended the inclusion of Barco’s latest LED technology based on all its features: its transparency, small component size and lightweight nature. He explained: “Mitrix made certain set elements possible that were previously impractical.” Doherty confirmed, “every feature offered by MiTrix was used to benefit the design; it was the perfect application.”
