Neumann & Mueller and d&b audiotechnik at AES Live Sound Seminars

Neumann & Mueller and d&b audiotechnik will be participating in the forthcoming AES Convention's Live Sound Seminars being held this year in Vienna. The two companies have collaborated on their seminar topics, which are being presented on Sunday 6th May beginning with Neumann & Mueller at 9:30 to 11:00 followed by d&b audiotechnik at 11:00 to 12:30.

Neumann & Mueller's session will be presented by Michael Kennedy and Rudolf Pirc and details the design and realization of the sound reinforcement system for the ‘3 Orchestras & Stars’ at the World Cup Opening in Munich.

This event took place in June 2006 and featured d&b audiotechnik's J-Series and Q-Series range of loudspeakers. The concert programme included the three major Munich orchestras on stage together, with performances from Placido Domingo, the soprano Diana Damrau, concert pianist Lang Lang and Xavier Naidoo with the German band ‘die Söhne Mannheims’. It was also broadcast live by the German TV station BR and 3sat. The sound design concept for this concert presents an interesting insight into the possibilities offered by modern sound reinforcement systems. The event took place in an athletics stadium and had to cater for approximately three-hundred microphone inputs as well as reaching approximately 28,000 listeners. The presentation covers such topics as homogenous PA coverage over the entire listening area with a view to maintaining the spatial acoustic impression of the stage, digital interconnection of system components and the related word clock issues, large scale input management and signal distribution, the coordination of multiple mix engineers to provide a consistent end mix and other related issues.

Directly following this is d&b audiotechnik's presentation by Holger Blum and Ralf Zuleeg entitled ‘Achieving the best results from your sound reinforcement system’. This session is divided into two parts, the first covering the dimensioning of line arrays and the question ‘Is more really more?’, with the second part covering the advantage of digital signal wiring and how to achieve optimal sonic quality and high reliability.

Both sessions promise to be very illuminating so if you are attending the AES Convention and are around on Sunday 6th May then try to join both Neumann and Mueller and d&b audiotechnik at these Live Sound Seminars.
