Showsec Go West(Point)

Westpoint Arena announced the appointment of Showsec to run their concert security as the Exeter venue hosted a sell-out Razorlight concert for 7,500 fans.
Westpoint Arena has recently invested in the venue’s development to make it more attractive to promoters and has also appointed a new in-house team, devoting time and energy to improving the venue’s infrastructure and creating a first class music venue.
As part of this commitment, Westpoint Arena has appointed crowd management specialists, Showsec, as their in-house concert security partner. Showsec is now managing Westpoint Arena’s concert security, from out-perimeters of the venue, queuing, to ticket and bag checks at the entrance, to backstage, pit, front of house and on the floor security.
Westpoint Arena’s Chief Executive, Mervyn Hosking, commented: “Looking after our audiences is a very important area; and one that our clients, licensing officials, and ourselves all need to feel confident about. Showsec do a better job than anyone else we’ve employed, hence we’ve contracted them.”
Showsec’s Cardiff and South West Area Manager, Pascal Lindelauf, was supervising security for the sell-out Razorlight gig. It was his first show at Westpoint and after profiling the audience, he deployed a total of 50 staff for the whole venue. He commented: “We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Westpoint Arena and are dedicated to providing them with a high quality service. Out of those 50 staff, all hold the NCFE event stewarding qualification, 35 are SIA licensed and all 20 of the pit staff have completed the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College accredited Pit Training course.”
Although Westpoint Arena is better known for hosting trade shows and exhibitions, Mervyn explained that they are hoping to increase their number of music concerts. He said: “When we host music concerts at Westpoint Arena, they do sell out and I feel we should put on more of these shows for the youngsters in the area.”
