ABTT Theatre Show Lights the Way

As the ABTT Theatre Show draws closer (13-14 June, Royal Horticultural Halls, London), its organisers - the Association of British Theatre Technicians - has announced that the current pre-registration level is indicating another record attendance and that again over 100 exhibitors will showcase a spectrum of technical solutions for everyone involved with housing and presenting the performing arts.    Now in its 29th year the ABTT Theatre Show welcomes a broad base of visitors seeking to find out how the latest in technology can add value to a venue, and make it capable of meeting the demands of contemporary productions and statutory government guidelines.

   In the fast moving digital world, advancements within theatre technology have reached a point where solutions are now not only affordable but also designed for non-technical users. And this technology can be adapted to augment any performance space be it any scale of theatre, a concert hall or a multi-purpose venue. No longer is there a divide between large and small theatres, professional and academic drama – the same technology embraces all facets of performance.

   At the ABTT Theatre Show, become mesmerised by integrated video solutions in action that add an extra dimension to any set design; plus the latest in lighting and lighting control systems.

   Computers Unlimited will showcase its Vectorworks Spotlight entertainment and lighting design software. Featuring new up-grades its now offers PDF import and export and legend improvements. The program offers a comprehensive range of 2D drafting and 3D modelling and production management capabilities with advanced lighting –design, visualisation and production tools that benefit all phases of the design process – saving time and money.

   US based City Theatrical will introduce its Stackers Tapered Top Hats, which stack for simple storage and transportation. Stackers are built from lightweight and durable aluminium and are available in four different models and five sizes to fit most popular lighting fixtures.

   Zero 88 will present its popular console range with a much anticipated new series – the Leap Frog 48 and Leap Frog 96. Never compromising on its quality build, the new Leap Frog range offers great value and is feature packed with expanded hardware platforms and many software enhancements.

   Associated Lighting GB will showcase a variety of its distributed products, including the ART range of lanterns. Manufactured in the Czech Republic, it boasts German components and is very cost effective.

   Amptown Lichttechnik GmbH will exhibit its range of fixtures including the Lightmover Yoke, which houses a variety of studio and theatres luminaries. beaMover boasts a 5500, 4600, and 4000 ANSI-Lumen and powerful 1000:1 contrast to ensure a super bright image. Amptown’s Washlight HP Squarcle boasts a variable beam angle, which makes this product a multi-functional washlight. All these products can be integrated with their barn door effect and controlled via DMX 512.

   Strand Lighting will present their Palette and Light Palette consoles complete with their latest software up-grades, plus the company is launching Vision.net - its new powerful lighting control system for architectural control applications.

   Leisuretec and Global Design Solutions are joining forces to present the award-winning Blues System. This product is revolutionising blue working light systems in theatre. Very flexible, the system is ideal for lighting under fly floors, wing spaces and crossovers. Global Design Solutions will also present its Stage Managers Desk.

   ETC will premiere its latest products for both large and small venues. These include the award-winning Eos and SmartFade ML lighting control systems. The Eos is available in two models - Eos 8K and Eos 4K. Eos is the culmination of extensive ETC console experience , research and end-user feedback. ETC’s new Smartfade ML – ML stands for moving lights – brings ETC quality control to the smallest venues, no matter how budget-challenged.

   As one of the world’s leading distributors for stage and entertainment lighting products, Multi-Lite will highlight its expansive range of Osram, Philips, GE and new to the show – Q-Max lighting filters.

   Lee Filters has announced that seven new colours have been added to their popular 700 series. Also, the latest edition of Lee Filters famous yellow swatch book will be available.

   Avolites will present its latest Pearl Expert console. Optimised for use on larger and demanding shows and events, Pear Expert is based on the Pearl 2004 operating system. It’s powered by the new Intel Core Dup Processor, allowing an exceptionally high speed button response.

   XL video will highlight its touch screen media delivery systems as part of its feature display. The company will showcase the latest video equipment and services to theatre and arts productions of all types. Flexible and dynamic, XL Video’s specialist theatre managers are always pleased to advise and help, whether it’s a West End blockbuster, site specific work or an experimental production.

   Lightfactor Sales is showing a variety of its core theatre and performance orientated products available from Italian manufacturers SGM and LDR and LightProcessor from the UK.

   New from LightProcessor is a range of Location Dimmers, specifically designed for the portable dimming market, ideal for film and video shoots and all types of special events. These offer a local and a non-local control options and are available in 1 x 63A, 2 x 25A, 6 x 16A and 6 x 10A versions – all as complete ‘ready-to-go’, out of the box, plug-in-and-go dimming systems.

   From SGM, ABTT 2007 will offer the first production preview of their new Synthesis wash fixture. This uses a 700W bulb, but is comparable to a 1200 Watt light source in intensity and power, and can be fitted with either a 7200°K or a 5600°K lamp.
