Grand Arcade’s Wish is Granted by Star Events Group
A brand new £120 million shopping centre is certainly something for the residents of Wigan to get excited about and the Grand Arcade’s Celebration Launch, hosted by local radio station WishFM and held on Saturday 21st April, was the place for them to do it. Star Events Group provided the stage for the proceedings, with singers Jamelia and Lemar performing live on the day.
The event was designed to combine style, glamour, shopping and celebrity. It began with a carnival themed parade from the town’s Mesnes Park, which was led by a horse-drawn carriage and followed by local children and street entertainers. The procession arrived at the Grand Arcade for more free entertainment including jugglers, face painters, stilt walkers and a music festival that showcased some of Wigan’s finest local bands.
Star Events Group supplied a 10m x 8m mobile trailer stage, draped with silver lame and positioned in Wigan town centre in front of The Moon Under Water pub, as well as the front of stage barrier and backstage fencing.
“The benefits of the mobile came to the fore, as load in had to start at 2.30am on the morning of the show,” says Star Events Group sales director Jane Russen. “The show itself was from 11am until 3pm, load out was straight after and we had the site clear within three hours. Under these sort of circumstances, you need a product that’s easy to set up and take down.”
Jo Heuston from WishFM had requested the same driver that Star Events Group had previously supplied for their 2006 Christmas lights switch on, as she felt this was critical to the load in running smoothly. “Of course we were happy to oblige and were able to secure both crew who’d worked on the previous Wigan show,” adds Jane.
“Star Events were extremely helpful in helping us deliver our project,” concludes Jo Heuston. “We had a very specific brief and their approach meant that we could tailor make this event to that brief. Their staff was friendly, helpful and professional and worked well with all our partners making everything simple for us. We'd use Star Events every time.”
