John Anderton and Jeff Demain Form PSL

With White Light consolidating its hire departments in Wimbledon, as a result John Anderton and Jeff Demain (formerly of White Light North) have formed a new company Performance Space Ltd. (PSL).
They are now up and running and open for business. “We are working on several projects in the north of England and abroad. PSL are still closely linked to White Light and will act as agents for the larger northern projects,” said John Anderton. “The last 25 years were fantastic. DMX hadn’t arrived in 1980 and Vari*Lites were referred to as ‘fairy lights’ on the shop floor. We opened up opportunities for the north that were previously only available in London. I started out in a barn in Triangle, near Sowerby Bridge, and was on my own, dealing with the lot. I learnt book keeping, telephone manners, my way around Yorkshire, and credit control, which is something else ‘up north’! I have had 25 years worth of good times and have made many lasting friendships.”
However, life moves on, and John feels it’s now time to capitalise on past performances. “PSL are now back in the same barn, now with a new coat of paint, but with the same happy outlook on life,” continues John.
Jeff Demain joined White Light North as sales director in 1994, and has completed over 100 project installations since then. That’s quite a record, but Jeff is also an industry character who can put a smile on anybody’s face at PLASA or ABTT. “Jeff introduced us to the Digital Festoon System,” explains John, “and now takes over the sales with his unequalled knowledge of the products. He worked as the chief electrician at the Grand Theatre in Leeds in the 80’s and moved to Lancashire in the early 90’s to pursue a career in design, sales and installation. His industry background covers rock and roll to working men’s clubs and cabaret to opera.”
PSL are specifiers of equipment for all types of performance spaces. “It can be lighting, sound, video, staging, seating, and drapes - even dance floors,” says John.
