Summit Gets SmarT at Windsor Horse Show

Summit steel supplied the 2007 Windsor Horse Show with 17 SmarTmasts that were used to provide lighting and sound positions all around the main arena. The show is one of the highest profile equestrian events on the UK calendar.
The 125m long, 60m wide arena featured six SmarTmasts along each of its sides and two at each of the ends, all built up to 12 metres in height. An additional mast was also located in the practice arena.
Summit was working for specialist event production company Horsepower. Summit's Jay Call led their team of riggers, co-ordinating with the Horsepower Group's Sports & Projects manager Stephen Renouard.
As the show is televised, it needs additional white lighting, so the SmarTmast solution was hit upon last year to create lighting positions out of nowhere in the middle of a green-field site.
Each mast was rigged with MBI flood lighting fixtures at the top, for a scheme designed by Jon Pope, who had originally recommended Summit for the task in 2006. Positioned 4-5m down on each mast was also a cluster of audio speakers, all pointed backwards towards the audience for commentary, background music and announcements.
Two additional masts were erected opposite the royal box onto which were rigged dVDOSC speakers, supplied by Delta Sound, in the conventional top hanging position.
