Joseph Revival on Track Thanks to PRG Europe
PRG Europe is supplying equipment for the revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which opens at the Adelphi on 17 July. Andrew Bridge designed the lighting for the 1991 production and is being assisted by Michael Odam for the 2007 revival.
The reworking involved a major desk transfer from the Artisan control console to a Wholehog II by programmers Stuart Porter and Pryderi Baskerville, who spent two weeks in PRG Europe’s demo theatre with the old system of VL2C and VL4 luminaires, together with their modern counterparts, the VL3000 and VL2000, in order to complete the show transfer.
The lighting rig, under the supervision of production electrician Fraser Hall, loaded into the Adelphi theatre on 4 June. The show previews from Friday 6 July and follows the BBC show Any Dream Will Do, in which thousands of hopefuls were whittled down to one, Lee Mead, who will play the lead.
At London’s Tate Modern at the end of May, PRG Europe supplied kit for The Long Weekend. Lighting designer Nick Jones, working with production manager Craig Becker, lit a series of one-off performances by celebrated international artists in the dramatic setting of the Turbine Hall.
The Donmar Warehouse has also seen PRG Europe equipment for Harold Pinter’s the Betrayal, lit by Rick Fisher, which has been described by one critic as “brilliant”, “fiendishly good”, while another said, “I can’t recommend it too highly.” PRG Europe also supplied equipment to light a Hartley Kemp design for Kiss of the Spider Woman, which ran at the Donmar and has now gone on tour to Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester.
Meanwhile, outside London, PRG Europe has been working at the Grange Park Opera season in Winchester and on the tours of Thriller and Dancing in the Streets.
