Arena Seating at Wembley Stadium for Concert for Diana
The first seated concert at the new Wembley Stadium marked the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, with Arena Seating installing over 10,000 seats on the hallowed turf. The event to celebrate her life was conceived by Princes William and Harry and reflected Diana’s love for the arts and music.
63,000 people filled the Stadium to see a variety of acts from the likes of hip-hop star P Diddy to Bryan Ferry, Elton John and James Morrison. There was even a medley of songs from the West End Musicals and a scene from Swan Lake performed by the English National Ballet.
Arena Seating director Terry Smith managed the complex operation to install 10,457 Samsonite seats onto the covered pitch. Amidst a busy production build in the new Stadium the Arena Seating team worked between 8th to 30th June to ensure the exact seating layout was achieved ready for the concert, and immediately after the show they removed all the seats overnight.
Terry said: “Having worked in the old stadium so often, I didn’t expect the sheer scale of both the venue and the event to be so amazing; this was a special event and (I have to say) the new stadium is brilliant.”
