CA Helps Cornbury Come of Age

The Oxfordshire festival, Cornbury is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most relaxed family-friendly music events of the summer, with production team CA Event helping top create the unique atmosphere.

With two stages headlined by David Gray, Echo and the Bunnymen and Blondie, the July event attracted a combined total of 24,000 people over two days (14,000 on the Saturday and 10,000 on Sunday), including a low-key visit by Conservative Party leader David Cameron.

One company played a vital role in ensuring a satisfying customer experience. CA, with managing director James Cobb at the helm, was responsible for the festival’s site management and production management, specifying and procuring all products and services. James, a long term friend and business colleague of Cornbury organiser Hugh Phillimore, was faced with a number of challenges in the build period.

Heavy rain in the run up to the event saw a high demand for temporary roadway, which required an adjustment of the site layout. However, Lord and Lady Rotherwick, the owners of the Cornbury Park estate, also pitched in by building an extra 150 metres of permanent roadway.

“The site design was a constant work in progress,” says James. “We relocated the campsites to take account of the extreme weather. At the same time we were accommodating more fairground attractions, traders and sponsors.”

James also needed to prepare the festival team for measures that will become obligatory next year when the new control of noise at work legislation comes on stream.

“We keep pushing to develop the festival,” he said. “As an event manager I don’t just stand by the stage watching the acts. I can usually be found around the site looking at how the services are working, checking how to improve things like toilets, traffic, signage and site layout for the customer.”
