Charcoalblue Scores RIBA Award Hat Trick
From the best in the UK to the best in the world, the RIBA National and International Awards Dinner – hosted at London’s Hilton, Park Lane on 22nd June - is a celebration of excellence in architecture.
Three out of the 14 inaugural RIBA National awards went to projects from the portfolio of young and dynamic theatre consultancy Charcoalblue. They comprise The Roundhouse, Camden; The RSC Courtyard, Stratford-upon-Avon and The Young Vic, London.
Charcoalblue’s specialist consultants worked in close association with architects: Haworth Tompkins on the award winning Young Vic; John McAslan and Partners on the critically acclaimed Roundhouse and Ian Ritchie Architects on the RSC’s groundbreaking temporary new home - the Courtyard Theatre.
Andy Hayles, managing director of Charcoalblue enthuses: “It was a great night! We’re extremely proud to have been so closely involved with all three winning projects. It's great to see our contribution recognized from time to time!”
Steve Tompkins of Haworth Tompkins Architects continues: “Charcoalblue are undoubtedly our preferred theatre collaborators. Charcoalblue’s particular combination of rigour, good humour, industry knowledge, follow-through - plus their genuinely wide-angled attitude towards design - place the team far ahead of their rivals in our experience. Andy Hayles, who I have worked with continuously for nearly ten years, is an invaluable colleague and one of the best team players in the business.”
Over 500 projects by RIBA Members around the world were entered for the national and international awards. Winners of the RIBA National and RIBA European Awards will go on to be considered for the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize later this year. The awards ceremony will then be televised in October 2007 at the Camden Roundhouse.
Hayles says: “We are hugely proud to have been able to provide our unique theatre design services to the architects responsible for three of the RIBA National Award winning buildings this year and we wish them the very best of luck in the forthcoming short listing process.”
