Robolights Smart Clamp Wins ABTT Widget Award
Robolights walked away with the “Widget Award” at the recent ABTT Theatre Show in London for its innovative Smart Clamp.
Technical director Julian Baycock said: “We were so busy at the show we just never actually got around to entering the awards. I knew that one of the judges was taking a keen interest in the product because he visited our stand several times.
“That evening I got a text from a friend who had been at the awards dinner congratulating me for winning the widget award. As you might imagine, I was surprised – but over the moon!”
The Smart Clamp replaces the conventional hook clamp used to hang equipment from lighting bars. It allows stage lighting lanterns to be easily rigged on to lighting bars and locked in place without the use of any tools or any additional nuts and bolts.
The Smart Clamp fits both 48mm and 50mm truss and self closes itself around the bar using its patented action. Hand tightening the lock knob locks the lantern in place and grips the bar or truss at the same time in one simple action.
Awarding Robolights the Widget prize, the judges said: “It is an encouraging development in moving the evolution of the hook clamp into the 21st century.”
Julian Baycock added: “To win such an award is a wonderful endorsement of what we do – next time I must get around to entering the competition!”
