Rock Up And Play with Stage Electrics

Stage Electrics supplied and installed set, lighting and generator power for the 'Nokia Rock Up & Play' structure at the 2007 Donington Park 'Download' Festival formerly known as Monsters of Rock working for The Dobson White Partnership.
The ‘Nokia Rock Up & Play’ structure contains a stage which is open to everyone who wishes to perform. Anyone can turn up as individuals or bands and play on their own or with the house band - with predictably mixed results. The stage also attracts the more ‘non-musical types’ who enter the air guitar competition with a signed ‘air guitar’ as first prize, there is also a DJ for late night moshing. At the Download festival the structure was open every day from 10am and attracted hundreds of visitors and performers.
Scenic elements supplied by Stage Electrics include the main bar, DJ bar, performance stage, Q & A stage and graphics walling. The company also supply download units and phone display pods and secure a signed Jackson guitar which is presented to a lucky prize winner at the end of the festival.
This year the teams worked to demanding timescales to produce a new set design to be housed within a brand new structure. The structure is 92' long by 60' wide and is 24' high at the peak and has a usable area of 5000 sq feet clear span. Branding was applied to the structure once it was on site.
Lighting supplied included 42 Source Four Pars, 36 Par64s, 15 Pixeline battens, 12 MAC 250 Entours, six MAC 300s and 5 MAC 700s controlled by an Avolites Pearl 2008 and Avolites dimmers.
Lighting design is by Nick Jones with Stage Electrics project managers Simon Baker and Mike Jarvis on site.
The structure and set will again be used in August, at the Reading and Leeds Festivals, Stage Electrics supplying here for the third year. Stage Electrics also supplied the Isle of Wight festival in 2006.
