Dance Through Time with MagicQ
Portsmouth based dance school, KateEllen Movement & Dance’s, production of ‘Dance Through Time’ was held at St Johns College in Southsea in July and the ChamSys MagicQ PC Wing was there too.
The house rig of generics, Zero88 Betapack dimming supplemented by additional dimming and DMX switch packs, PAR cans, UV Tubes, Jem ZR24/7 Hazer, CCT followspot and the six-foot tall hand-built Tardis was controlled using a single laptop with external monitor and a ChamSys MagicQ PC Wing - an affordable and portable method for lighting designer and operator Matt Lemon of Eastleigh based ML Lighting who is also works in development for ChamSys Ltd.
Matt was pleased that his day job was able to provide the perfect solution to lighting control and happily boasted about the wealth of MagicQ features: “The new multiwindows feature in the software is great. It allowed me to spread the screens I was using across the laptop and external monitor without having to open up another program, so I could keep all the information I needed while programming and running the show in view. I could easily recall the views I had created by recording them onto the spare window palettes.
"By altering the advanced times within the cue, I was able to adjust the fade times of each individual light, giving me precise control over how each cue was faded in, all through a simple spreadsheet interface.
"The ability to alter the options of each individual cue stack was very useful. It allowed me to customise the way in which each fader, flash button and go button responded depending on the needs of the cue stack. Due to the programming schedule, the show was programmed out of sequence so it was great to be able to move around the stack for each number after programming. Because I had to use a lot of pages, I was able to set the cue stacks I wanted on every page to be a default playback, saving a lot of unnecessary copying!"
