Flashlight Unveils High End Systems Showgun at Lowlands Festival

Flashlight Rental, Europe’s fastest growing entertainment lighting rental specialists, unveiled High End Systems’ latest automated luminaire, the mega-powerful, multiple-source Showgun at the massive Lowlands Festival in Holland this weekend, deploying 12 of the luminaires on the festival’s two biggest stages – Alpha and Grolsch.
Flashlight decided to invest in a substantial rental stock of the new Showgun, a fixture with a patent-pending optical design that offers lighting designers a unique combination of sheer, unbridled power, advanced features and unmatched lighting design possibilities. Its three-dimensional concept includes up to 100,000 lumens of focused or soft edge beams, image projection, and an innovative 5,000-lumen LED Tracking System – a unique homogenously mixed RGB LED circular array that allows the user to either match the colour of the main output beam, or to project a complementary colour by mixing RGB values.
Eight Showgun fixtures were used on the main (Alpha) stage on a prominently positioned upstage truss, with four similarly located on the Bravo stage. Alpha Stage headliners included The Killers, Editors, Damien Rice, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Tool, Arcade Fire and Sonic Youth, while Grolsch Stage acts included Lilly Allen, The Good, The Bad & The Queen, Interpol, Nine Inch Nails, Motorhead and LCD Soundsystem.
Flashlight lighting production manager Anco Stielstra commented: “We are very excited to be the first lighting company in Europe to use the new Showgun, which is an absolutely unbelievable luminaire. As well as the Alpha and Grolsch stage LDs who had the chance to use it for themselves, LDs from all the other stages came over to have a look and the reaction was fantastic. We’re delighted that High End has come up with something so innovative and that Flashlight can already offer this great tool to designers.”
The Showgun units joined a massive inventory of equipment from Flashlight that embraced several hundred moving heads including High End Systems Studio Command 1200s, Studio Spot 250s and Studio Color 575s, plus Vari*Lite VL3000 and VL2000 Spots and VL2500 Washes. They were controlled by Wholehog II and III consoles with Wings, a Flying Pig Roadhog and Avolites Diamond 3 and 4 desks, and were complemented by Martin Atomic 3000 strobes, Desisti 2000 Fresnels, ADB Svoboda Battens, Cyberlight SVs and MA Lighting dimming.
For Flashlight Rental Lowlands 2007 was already a very special occasion, as Flashlight has grown up in tandem with what is now Holland’s top “must-see” music event, lighting it every year throughout its 15-year history. All 60,000 three-day camping tickets were sold out months before the lineup was announced and the company supplied lighting to around 25 different locations including 15 stages and performance areas, bars, press areas and special features dotted around the brilliantly organised site.
Sister companies Ampco Pro Rent and Riggingbox also supply full audio and rigging production to all the festival’s stages and other areas, providing Lowlands Festival with a complete lighting, sound and rigging package from the Ampco / Flashlight Group.
