Morbit Beats the Squeeze as Cliveden Rocks
42 years since Cliveden in Buckinghamshire had its most infamous encounter with rock’n’roll, August 2007 saw the music return with a vengeance as the National Trust-owned property hosted the two day Cliveden Rocks festival.
It was in May 1965 that the Beatles famously spent two days at Cliveden while filming scenes for the film Help!, so it was appropriate that the second day of the festival featured tribute act The Bandit Beatles.
A family-orientated festival featuring tribute bands The Strolling Bones, ZU2, the Bandit Beatles and The Magic of Abba, ending with a spectacular firework finale, Cliveden Rocks saw Star Events Group provide a Morbit stage for the bands to play on.
“This is the first rock / pop event that Cliveden has hosted,” says the National Trust’s Richard Jordan-Baker. “But I have worked with Star Events Group many times in the past and they were the natural choice. They provide an absolutely unparalleled service.”
Despite this year’s British summer more than ever living up to its ‘wet’ sobriquet, fortunately the grass surfaces of the Cliveden estate had dried sufficiently to make laying trakway unnecessary. However, the site still presented some challenges.
“From our first site visit, we identified that the client would need to remove part of a post and rail fence, but deploying the stage on a relatively tight site was the main challenge,” says Jane Russen, Star Events Group Director of mobile sales. “We still had to utilise the rear steering of our specialist delivery vehicle, which enables the stage to get in to many locations a normal trailer couldn’t. It made Morbit ideal for the job.”
This was a sentiment echoed by Richard Jordan-Baker. “There are always challenges, especially with outdoor events,” he says. “But in over a decade of working with Star Events Group at other venues, I have never yet had a challenge that its team has been unable to resolve. This was no different. I am always very happy with my working relationship with them and everything went very smoothly.”
The reassurance of a long-term relationship was very important in this case, with Richard working on a new event at a new venue and also with a stage he had never previously booked.
“I was very pleased with how Cliveden Rocks went and how Star Events Group handled the staging,” he says. “For this event I booked a stage that I had not booked before and so there was an element of trust involved. But they are the experts and I have total confidence that their decisions are the right ones. This was proved by the success of the weekend. The entire process was handled exceptionally well by the Star Events team.”
