The Little Magic Box from Audio-Technica

Audio-Technica Ltd is launching the remarkable Sabine Phantom Mic Rider at this year’s PLASA show. This unique installation product offers programmable microphone self-operating capabilities that previously could only be imagined. All of this, from a small plug-in unit that simply attaches to any condenser microphone, and draws its power from the microphone’s own phantom supply.
The Phantom Mic rider connects between the gooseneck and lectern stand, or the microphone and cable connector of any microphone – gooseneck, podium or handheld. It automatically resolves an array of critical problems associated with inexperienced and non-professional use of microphones, in meeting room and congress and presentation applications. In essence, the Phantom Mic Rider is like having a dedicated sound engineer for every microphone.
Problems addressed by the Phantom Mic Rider include those associated with bad microphone technique, operation and signal quality issues that would normally require the presence of a sound engineer. Features include: feedback elimination ensures best gain before feedback operation; automatic gain control alters the gain setting as the user moves away from or towards the microphone; proximity effect control controls excess bass response that occurs as the user moves close up to the microphone capsule, maintaining an even frequency response at al distances from the microphone; plosive control minimises the pops and bursts associated with consonant in speech; automatic gating is controlled by the miniature infrared sensor that opens and closes the microphone in response to the presence of a user’s body heat.
The Phantom Mic Rider is extremely easy to install and set up; controls hidden beneath the security cover allow adjustments to match a particular microphone’s sensitivity, set the feedback eliminator filters and tweak the proximity and plosive controls.
