ETC Sensor Dimming Upgrades the London Coliseum
The London Coliseum has carried out the first upgrade of its dimming system since the completion of its four year restoration programme in 2004, with the installation of an ETC Sensor+ 96 way dimming rack. The complete installation, from receipt of order to re-energising the system, took just eight days, ensuring the house was ready for rehearsals and performances in the new season.
The order for the new rack was received by Fagan Electrical on Thursday, August 30 and ETC delivered the rack to the Coliseum the following Monday, September 3. The Sensor+ rack upgrades the house light dimming system, supplying more than 80 channels, most with an RCD on each channel. Other channels utilise the Sensor+ emergency lighting modules, some dimmed, some relay switching. Control is from an ETC Unison system, which was installed during the refurbishment.
Nick Ewins of Fagan Electrical said: "We had been in negotiation for some time with the Head of Building Maintenance, Rob Bridges, to carry out some remedial work, updating power supplies to the existing dimmer installation. The dimming installation was added to our scope of works and is the first project that Fagan Electrical has undertaken for the Coliseum. We are in a unique position to be able to take on this type of project at a moment's notice and Mark White's team at ETC was just brilliant. The fact that they were able to deliver the rack at such short notice really saved the day."
Nick worked closely with former colleague Steve Chappell of Stage Electrics, who re-commissioned the system, and also with ETC, to iron out any initial technical problems.
Works will all be completed in time for the ENO's new production of Carmen which opens on September 29. Other forthcoming productions include The Magic Flute and new productions of The Coronation of Poppea, Turn of the Screw and Aida.
