LXCO Light Up Arundel

LXCO Light Up Arundel

LXCO, specialist in production lighting, was contracted to light up the stage at Arundel festival which took place at the historic Arundel Castle, in West Sussex in late August.

The four-day festival hosted an eclectic mix of performances from a 40-piece orchestra to Girls Aloud. LXCO designed and supplied the production lighting for the festival, transforming the lighting set between each of the shows. Among the lights hanging from the truss were 54 PAR cans creating colour washes on stage as well as 14 Martin Mac500s and 18 Mac600s. The rig was developed over the four varying gigs, to suit the music and the mood of each event.

Mark Wheatley, LXCO’s lighting designer commented: “We wanted to try and give it a different look each night for people coming back to the festival; suiting the style and genre of music. We knew there would be activity and rehearsals on the stage during the day so our team worked at night after each performance was over.”

With years in the industry, LXCO is familiar with temporary staging solutions found at outdoor events and their experience allows them to convert lighting designs within a tight timescale, working at Cornbury Festival, West End shows and touring with James Brown, Jay-Z and Babyshambles, to name a few.

LXCO tailored the lighting rig for a variety of shows, ranging from subtle colour washes for a night of opera with Natasha Marsh, Alfie Boe and a 40-piece orchestra, to a more flashy affair for the grand finale which included one dazzling 24", one 12" and two 18" mirror balls, used in conjunction with white silk drapes, as well as stylish smoke effects for performances by Jamelia, Shayne Ward and Girls Aloud.

Logistical efficiency played a key role in the construction and transformation of the festival stage and LXCO liaised with other suppliers to ensure an integrated approach to the production design and build. The company also worked alongside Level 42’s own Lighting Designer, Steve Finch, to meet their own individual requirements.
