SBES 2007 Prepares For Business

For over 30 years the Sound Broadcasting Equipment Show has been the most important professional broadcast sound exhibition in the UK. Today, it is the only exhibition that is exclusively focused on sound equipment for broadcasters, including the BBC, commercial and community radio, student and hospital radio, not forgetting sound production facilities and recording studios.

With only a couple of months to go until this year's SBES, organisers Point Promotions are making final preparations for the event. A wide variety of companies will be exhibiting as usual and, from the start of this month, the SBES website booking page has been open for business. Advanced booking means not having to queue up on arrival as visitor badges will be mailed out two weeks before the event. The on-line booking form can be found via the SBES website.

Following its successful launch at last year's SBES, Broadcast Bionics are again providing a lecture theatre in the exhibition hall where they will be sponsoring a series of presentations under the title 'Future Zone'. Although full details will be announced closer to the dates of SBES, already a number of speakers have been confirmed. These will include Steve Church of Axia / Omnia, the Radio Academy's Trevor Dann, and three people from the BBC. A joint session will be presented by James Cridland and Tristan Ferne from BBC Future Media & Technology, BBC Audio & Music Interactive, whilst Nick Sheridan of the BBC World Service completes the currently confirmed line up.

According to Dave McVittie at Point Promotions, by late August over 80% of available stand space had been sold. "We always seem to get a rush of last-minute bookings during September, following the IBC event in Amsterdam," he said, adding, "the problem can be that it becomes difficult to accommodate the precise requirements of customers as more of the space gets filled. Of course, we'll be as flexible as we can be, but we have to prioritise on a first come, first served, basis."

The 32nd Sound Broadcasting Equipment Show takes place on Wednesday and Thursday the 14th and 15th of November at the Pavilion Suite of the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Doors will be open between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on both days.
