Scout Movement Celebrates with HK Audio
The scouting organisation is without a doubt the largest and best-known youth movement in the world. In existence for one hundred years now, these scouting associations for boys and girls continue to enjoy increasing popularity today.
Internationally, the scouting movement is organised in two worldwide confederations. The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) for boys and girls claims 28 million members in 155 countries, and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) has 10 million members in 144 countries. To celebrate the scout movement’s 100th anniversary, 5,000 members of the UK South Coast Movement, which belongs to the WOSM, recently came together in Hampshire in the south of England. The program of the open-air event at the New Forest Showground in Hampshire featured speeches, presentations, theater performances and a performance by the Gosport Gang Show, supported by a 5-piece live band. These diverse demands presented a challenge for Guy Morris of MLS, the local rental company. For this event, he required a sound system that could do a brilliant job of reproducing speech, prerecorded music, and live music equally well over quite a large area. This is precisely the sort of job at which the HK Audio Cohedra Compact line array excels. MLS set up eight CDR 108s and four CDR 210 subwoofers on each side of the stage, and powered them with three matching PR8 Amp racks with digital field controllers.
Due to the width of the stage, two ConTour Series CT 115 cabinets were also employed as frontfills. The monitoring chores were handled by six Dart active monitors, with four CT 108 stage monitors used for the chorus. Guy Morris comments: “Since the actors involved in the theater production were all using headset microphones, I absolutely needed a flexible sound system with high gain before feedback that could reproduce the individual voices clearly and distinctly without distorting them. On top of that, both the music on tape and the songs played live had to come through loud and clear. That’s why the Cohedra Compact system was my first choice.”
The centenary anniversary of the Southern English Scout Movement was a huge success – for both the worldwide scouting organisation and HK Audio!
